Patricia Pasick, Ph.D. (Founder and Director)

Dr. Pasick is a psychologist, and the founder and director of Stories For Hope-Rwanda. She comes to international work with graduate degrees from Harvard and the University of Michigan, and over 30 years treating families, couples, and individuals. In October 2010, she will receive a Humanitarian Service award from her Alma mater. In 2010 she was recipient of a grant award from Psychology Beyond Borders. She has trained professionals in narrative psychology, and authored numerous articles for journals and books. Her book, "Almost Grown" (W.W. Norton) about the transition to adulthood, is highly rated by parents , schools, colleges and universities. In 2006 her interest in culture and families led to a national presentation at the Smithsonian Institute in Washington D.C., on immigrants from the Philippines.

David Wallace, Ph.D. (Archivist and Lecturer)

David A. Wallace, Ph.D. is collaborating on developing and implementing the Stories for Hope archive. He is a lecturer IV at the School of Information, University of Michigan. His areas of research include investigations into the connections between archiving and the shaping of the present and the past and the role of archives in enabling and denying accountability and justice. He has published and presented widely over the past 15+ years in professional archival fora. He is co-editor of Archives and the Public Good: Accountability and Records in Modern Society (Westport, Connecticut: Quorum Books, 2002), and served as the series technical editor to the National Security Archive's The Making of U.S. Policy series (Chadwyck-Healy & National Security Archive, 1989-1992). His consultations and collaborations include work with the Nelson Mandela Foundation's Centre of Memory and the South Africa History Archive.

Munganyinka Lydia Taima (In-country Manager)

Lydia began her involvement with SFH in 2009 when she was trained as a facilitator in narrative psychology. Since 2008 she was a youth club president for the Never Again Club at the National University of Rwanda and in January 2010, she joined the Never Again team as a Program Coordinator. She obtained a degree in law from the National University of Rwanda in 2009. While in school, she won the national Moot Court competition in Humanitarian Law and represented Rwanda in Arusha 2008, at the international moot court competition. Having a strong interest in human rights and justice, she participated in UNESCO and JCCP’s Training of Trainers and acquired skills which she currently uses to facilitate several trainings throughout Rwanda about peace-building with Rwandan Network for Conflict Prevention and Management.

Ngendahayo Emmanuel (Senior Facilitator)

Emmanuel is a pastor in Byumba, and in charge of program development for Englise Episcopale Rwanda-Byumba, Rwanda, and coordinator and trainer of a large sociotherapy program in Rwanda. His background is in project management, particularly in the area of reconciliation.

Leah Camille Brunk (Project Assistant)

Leah is an undergraduate at the University of Michigan, where she is majoring in organizational psychology. Her background includes service in Zambia, and most recently in Rwanda, where she assisted Dr. Pasick during a long pilot study.

Nelson Tambo (Media Manager)

Tambo is a 4th year college student in Kigali, where he is majoring in computer technology. He is also a facilitator for the project, and a member of Never Again Rwanda.

Jane Hassinger, D.S.W. Board Officer & Clinical and Research Consultant

Jane teaches at the University of Michigan, in both Women's Studies, and the Institute for Research on Women and Gender. She is just finishing a qualitative research project in South Africa on women, story, and HIV/AIDS, and is involved in Ghana with the African Studies Center, at U-M. Her research and teaching interests are: gender and organizational dynamics; women's psychological development, women's career and family planning strategies; feminist psychotherapies; and effects of abuse and trauma on coping strategies.

A medical anthropologist in Rwanda, Ph.D. student, University of Leiden, and researcher in the sociotherapy program, in Byumba Rwanda.

Ntibanyendera Eli Sam (Media Manager (Byumba) and Translator)
Eli Sam has three degrees: in Economics, Geography, and Education. Currently he is Assistant Coordinator in community-based sociotherapy for Eglise Episcopale au Rwanda. Eli Sam, as media manager, is in charge of recording, copying, preserving, and uploading audio files and photos from our participants. He is married, and the father of two sets of twins (2 girls and 2 boys). His hobbies include guitar, piano, photography, and videography. He is also an avid reader and his recent book is entitled Family Philosophy.

Lynn Malinoff, Ed.D., Project Consultant

Lynn is the director of Eastern Michigan University’s 21st Century Community Learning Centers Programs, Bright Futures, which are located in three districts along the Michigan Avenue Corridor – Wayne-Westland Community Schools District, Willow Run Community Schools and Ypsilanti Public Schools. She coaches administrators and consults on the implementation of the Youth Program Quality model for positive youth development.

Erica Rouleau, Project Assistant

Erica is a student at Michigan State University, where she is majoring in psychology. She has a strong interest in studying the effects of trauma upon young people. Erica volunteered for Stories For Hope in the summer of 2010 and she has been working diligently on stories.

Joan Margeson, Board Officer

Joan is a Board Officer for Stories For Hope, and manages an Information Technology department at Ford Motor Company. With her partner, Ken Silk, M.D., Joan has sponsored several children in Rwanda to complete their educations.

Donna Freund,M.S.W. Board Officer

Donna is a social worker whose career is focused on hospice work in Ann Arbor, Michigan. She has a graduate degree from the University, and, with her partner, David Ross, has sponsored a child in Rwanda to finish her education.

Daniel Littlewood, Producer

Daniel is a free-lance film editor living and working in New York City. In 2009 he traveled to Rwanda with Stories For Hope, and created the audio recording technology for the project. Formerly he worked for StoryCorps, in New York.

Babu Emile, Translator and Writer

Babu Emile is a Rwandan journalist and multi-media consultant working and studying in the US. In 2011 he begins a Master's Degree in Journalism, at the University of Vermont. He has worked as a Managing Editor and Columnist with Rwandan mainstream media companies like The NewTimes, BusinessRwanda and Rwanda Development Gateway. His articles have been published in both Rwanda and the US.
